J Thwaites
J Thwaites was founded
over 55 years ago in the heart of industrial Yorkshire by Jim
Thwaites to manufacture compression moulded plastic toys. The
company was very successful and competed strongly against more
established companies like Chad Valley, one of the largest toy
manufacturers at the time.
In the early 1950's
Jim Thwaites spotted a gap in the market and started to make PVC
temple rollers for the looms weaving modern man-made fabrics.
This proved highly successful, and by the mid 1950's, J Thwaites
Ltd had moved from toys to manufacturing PVC roller coverings
for the textile trade. Jim's understanding of new developments
in plastics materials technology allowed these innovative new
products to outperform the traditional natural rubber textile
machinery roller coverings and the business continued to grow.
Since then the range has been under constant development with
new products and specialist developments to meet increasingly
demanding customer requirements.
Today, run by the second
and third generations of the Thwaites family, the company is housed
in a spacious purpose built manufacturing unit in Dewsbury, West
Yorkshire. The business continues to prosper - about 85% of the
total roller covering manufactured in the United Kingdom comes
from J Thwaites and the company's products are exported worldwide.
